Most of my writing has been for magazines at the University of St. Thomas. I’ve always been fascinated by other people’s stories, and I consider myself fortunate to have been able to interview CEOs, doctors, professors, nuns, a member of the Minnesota National Guard, students studying in Rome, and many other men and women. My writing also appears in Story, Luther Seminary’s magazine; in Augsburg Now, a publication of Augsburg University; in Saint Mary’s Magazine; and on the Minnesota Private College Council website.
In November 2015, I published Geek Culture, a coffee-table book about CONvergence, probably the largest volunteer-run science fiction convention in the United States. The book includes the stories of people who make up the convention, such as the volunteers at House of Toast, a party room that specializes in toast with an astounding array of toppings; yoga instructor “Justini Yogini,” who leads yoga sessions based on fanfiction; special-effects makeup artist Bill Hedrick; seamstress Julie Bowman, who sells stuffed dragons; and many other people who participate in panels, host parties, create costumes, and otherwise express their geeky interests at the convention.
On April 1, 2024, I published Unleashing Your Inner Insect, a satirical take on personality type books. You may know your Myers-Briggs and Enneagram types, but do you know your inner insect? 😉
